Landscape is my first passion, so experimenting with creative text and metaphors would be an emotional and fascinating journey. How was I going to portray visually the wonderful and expressive text that I held with such high regard? How was I going to speak to the viewer, through images? This was something I really wanted to explore and ultimately be successful.
I started by researching song lyrics that were based on the subject of loss or bereavement. Below are a selection of my findings.
The above Lyrics are by, Isomnium, 'Berevement'
I felt a deep connection with the above song. I have never heard of the band Isomnium and I don't think the band is something I would normally listen to, but the creative and meaningful words really attracted me to the song. I felt the words 'since my darkness swallowed, The last gleam of light' , had a creative ,descriptive meaning that I could really visualise fitting some of my work.
The above lyrics are by: Insomnium, 'Daughter of the moon'.
The above lyrics are by: Hoobastank , Tears of yesterday.
The above lyrics are by: Evanescence, My Immortal.
In the above lyrics by Evanescence, I find myself really reading several of the lines over and over, the words although beautiful have a real sense of loss and despondence. I really feel an emotional connection with the above words. However how was I going to fit this with the landscape work I tend to produce.
The above lyrics are by: within temptation ,'Memories'.
I love the words 'your slient whispers, slient tears. All of my memories'.
The above lyrics are by: Evanescence ,'Understanding (wash it all away).'
The words in the above song are really deep, there is a depth to the meaning that isnt always easy to understand at first glance. I found myself reading the whole song over and over, to try to understand what was being sad. The first verse, is spoken and for me the words really say how I feel. These are as follows:
"You hold the answers deep within your own mind.
Consciously, youve forgotten it.
Thats the way the human mind works.
Whenever something is too unpleasent, to shameful for us.
to entertain, we reject it.
We erase it from our memories.
But the imprint is always there."
I feel I can relate to the words, after going through deep, senstive and emotional times. I can make a real connection with the words.
How will I get this across to the viewer in my landscape images, when I visit 'The isle of Arran' ?
